Windy City Mastering takes a very straight-forward and minimalist approach to equipment selection. The majority of our outboard gear is hand built using the finest components available. A mass produced product is built to reach a price point which usually means sacrifices are being made to cut costs. Our equipment doesn't suffer from these shortcomings because we won't let money stand in the way of quality. Our number one goal is quality, and if that means reducing the amount of equipment in our rack then so be it.
The Suite
Why is our room part of the equipment list? That is because the room is the most important component of a mastering suite (besides the engineer). Room acoustics affect what the mastering engineer is hearing, and if the room has issues with frequency peaks/nulls...your recording will suffer! Our suite is acoustically treated using broadband absorbers made from John Manville 814 rigid fiberglass which makes our room as close to acoustically transparent as one could hope.
